2010 10-27 LBL 11God of all beings, of all things,

give me pure love for you, pure devotion to you.

There is nothing else worth wanting, and having these, everything is gained.

Peace, peace, peace be unto all.

KissI’m tired of this playing hide-and-seek by moonlight. I’m too old for games. Can’t you see that this is serious? I don’t want to chase after you, listening to you giggle. I want you to sit still and be close to me, hold my hand and talk to me. Why is that too much to ask?

You let Francis catch you. I’m not even sure if he chased you at all. Seems to me he just turned a corner one day and there you were.

Gadai got hold of you when he was just a boy. And don’t tell me how hard it was for him all those years, how he cried for you for so many days. We both know he had his reasons for all of that.

And what about Siddartha? He didn’t even look for you, went the opposite direction, but when he plopped down under that tree, you were waiting for him. How is that fair?

I can go on and on, you know.

Nimai just went around causing trouble. Then along you came and said, “Here. Sing this.” Next thing you know, he’s a saint.

Now Paul, I grant that you weren’t so friendly about it. But you gave yourself to him nonetheless, and how did he earn it? I ask you!

See, there are plenty of precedents. You did it for them, now I think it’s my turn. Sit down here, and do for me what you did for them. Give yourself to me. Let me melt into you. That’s what I call freedom.

And while you’re at it, go ahead and give it to everyone else. They’re really decent people. I think they deserve it.

I love you. Even if you are a tease.

Peace, peace, peace be unto all.

FireMay God, my all, my one true love, though your flame burns always within me, I am blind to its light and chilled by the frigid world.

Set ablaze the fire of devotion in my heart and the fire of knowledge in my head, that I may endure the world and see through the darkness of ignorance.

May my love for you light a pyre beneath the ego, and reduce to ash the selfish clinging that keeps hidden from me your precious face.

MistWho are you, Lord? Who are you really? What is the secret you are keeping?

I close my eyes and look within and glimpse your light in my heart.

But I go to where you hang on a cross, and monks sing about your mercy and grace, and you whisper to me.

And I go to where you sit in deep meditation, and they worship you in many languages and give you flowers, and you make me cry with joy.

And I go to wild places and sit by waters, under ancient trees, and feel some breeze that is more than wind.

And in the briefest of visions, I saw your light in the hearts of others.

You are the mystery of myself and the mystery of all. Reveal your great love to us, and all wrong things will be set right.

Peace, peace, peace be unto all.

SunThere is nothing to cling to.

Indeed, there is no clinging.

There is nothing by which to be repulsed.

Indeed, there is no repulsion.

There is no impurity to cleanse away.

Indeed, there is neither impurity nor purity.

There is no enlightenment to attain.

Indeed, there is no ignorance.

I am not this.

I am not that.

None of these things are in me.

I am in none of these things.

Nothing can hold me.

No one can keep me.

I am not merely free.

I am freedom itself.

And I will proclaim my Self from the tops of the mountains.

I will shout the Truth from the steps of every temple.

I will tell every being that I meet,

“I am divine, my sisters, my brother,

And so you are. And so are you.

For we are One. We are One!

And nothing can stop us now!”

Child LaborerDear Father of all, compassionate and loving, relieve the suffering of the children of this world.

They live with poverty, neglect, violence and hunger. They endure endless privation, and grow up without love and nurturing.

So many causes and campaigns, churches and temples, palaces and towers of greed, while the children cry in the darkest corners of squalor, debasement and tragedy.

Even for those children in fine homes, surrounded by comfort, sheltered behind class and wealth, how many have love, virtuous guidance, tender understanding and empathy?

The children are the jewels of society, the treasure of every nation. But they are neglected like dross,  rubbish.

The children are the voiceless majority.

Shelter them and bless them, Lord. Nurture and love them. But above all, turn the hearts of all who see them. Let us never ignore their needs. Give us the fortitude to protect them, the will to work selflessly, tirelessly for them, and the understanding to love them unconditionally.

Peace, peace, peace be unto all.

st francisAll you saints throughout the ages,

All buddhas and bodhisattvas,

All avatars and holy sages,

You who have seen the face of God,

You who have attained the highest truth,

You who have graced the world with your divine presence among us,

Stay through the countless ages

And pray for us all,

Work tirelessly for our liberation from ignorance,

Save us from endless lives of suffering,

Hear us from the depths of despair

And answer us from the throne of bliss.

Our hearts belong to you always.

Peace, peace, peace be unto all.
